NEW SCULPTURES POURED WITH ‘GREEN’ CEMENT
The Museum of Underwater Art has reached a major milestone in the next stage of the project with the pouring of ‘green’ concrete into the inverted moulds of the 8 new sculptures.
Artist Jason de Caires Taylor shared the interesting process behind filling the moulds and getting them ready to be shipped to Australia in the next few months.
The 8 pieces of art were filled with special new Green Geopolymer Cement, an earth friendly mix that reduces embodied carbon by 75-87%. The sculptures were partially suspended from the ceiling and over 12 tonnes of cement was poured into them.
Now dried and standing upright, we are proud to reveal what these pieces look like in their true and final form, before being installed in North Queensland.
The artworks take the shape of inspiring people, pioneers in the reef conservation space, who’re on a mission to educate the rest of the world.
