Celebrating 5 years of MOUA

  • Townsville, QLD Australia (map)

This August, join us in celebrating five incredible years since the installation of the Museum of Underwater Art’s Coral Greenhouse and surrounding sculptures. The Coral Greenhouse was officially opened in April 2020, attracting divers and visitors from around the world, and proudly holds the Guinness World Record for the largest underwater art structure.

Enjoy the beautiful North Queensland winter – the perfect time to visit MOUA and the Great Barrier Reef, with crystal-clear water, comfortable conditions, and abundant marine life. Whether you're snorkeling, diving, or simply exploring, there’s never been a better moment to experience this unique fusion of art, science, and nature.

Use this opportunity to get involved in citizen science during your visit by taking photos of marine life and uploading them to iNaturalist – the world’s largest citizen science platform. Your contributions help scientists better understand and protect our marine ecosystems by adding valuable data from the reef.

When: 1-31 August 2025
Where: MOUA, John Brewer Reef, Queensland, Australia
How: Book a diving or snorkeling trip to MOUA during 1-31 August 2025, take underwater photos of marine life and upload them to the MOUA John Brewer Reef iNaturalist project

The initial stage of the project involved the creation of the Coral Greenhouse, a preferred design for the core of the underwater museum. The 12-meter high Coral Greenhouse, designed as a place to care for the marine environment, received permit approval from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) in November 2019.
